MARY DENISE KUPRIONIS

Having spent more than 25 years in public, private and nonprofit boardrooms, Denise Kuprionis brings deep and direct board leadership experience to JBK's Get on Board practice.

She currently serves as President of The Governance Solutions Group, a board advisory practice that she founded in 2010 after a 32-year career with The E.W. Scripps Company, a publicly traded media company. At Scripps, she was the first woman elected an officer of the company, she started the company’s first in-house legal department, and served as corporate secretary and chief ethics and compliance officer.

Known for her learning agility and keen sense of board dynamics, Denise has chaired national nonprofit organizations and currently serves on the boards of advisors of two privately held companies. Her expertise spans board governance, succession planning, ethics program planning and response, executive compensation and human resource management. She has gained additional experience with organizations transitioning through uncertain economic and regulatory times through her 20-year service as a trustee with the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Denise has published and presented on a variety of governance matters and is a visiting professor at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She completed the Wharton School’s Boards that Lead Program, is a Senior Fellow for The Conference Board’s Governance Center, is an NACD Board Leadership Fellow and is a member of the Society for Corporate Governance. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Northern Kentucky University and a Juris Doctorate degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.
